Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik from Odisha gets Padma Shri

Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik from Odisha gets Padma Shri. This is for the first time in India a Sand artists is awarded with Padma Shri. Among the Padma Shri awardees are cricketer Yuvraj Singh, cine stars Paresh Rawal and Vidya Balan, theatre artist Bansi Kaul eminent neurologist Sunil Pradhan, oncologist Rajesh Grover, vascular surgeon Thenumgal Poulose Jacob, Union minister Sharad Pawar’s brother Pratap Govindrao Pawar, and owner of Sakal newspaper group. Former CSIR chief Dr. R Mashelkar and yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar have been chosen for this year Padma Vibushan awards. Notable among 25 people who gets their Padma Bhushan awardees are Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu, film actor Kamal Haasan and tennis player Leander Paes. Also in the list are classical singer Parveen Sultana, Justice Dalvir Bhandari, author Ruskin Bond and former Chief Justice of India J.S. Verma.
