Vice President Hamid Ansari inaugurated the100-year-old educational institution, Sailabala Women’s College. The College started in the year 1903. The College, named after Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das foster daughter Sailabala. The campus is spread over an area of 50 acres, which also houses a museum in memory of the legendary Madhu Babu called Madhu Smriti.The college imparts degree and post-graduate courses in Arts and Science.

The district administrations along with the Collegeauthorities welcomed the Vice President to the city. He was accompanied by theChief Minister Naveen Pattnaik, MLA Debasish Samantray.

Vice President Hamid Ansari said “Since any plan is as good as its implementation, it becomes a moral duty for all in government,legislature, judiciary, civil society and ordinary citizens to ensure that the programme objectives are translated into concrete action”. The Centre has identified a plan of action under 12th Plan to address seven specific areas concerning women’s equality such as economic empowerment, social and physical infrastructure, enabling legislation's, participation in governance, inclusion of women, engendering national policies and mainstreaming through gender budgeting.

On the eve of centenary celebrations, the college authorities called upon the State Government to declare it as a Unitary University and a Centre of Excellence.
